Frequently Asked Questions
What are your fees and how do you accept payment? |
Payment is due at time of service, unless a prior payment plan is arranged. Discussion of fees and types of services are provided when you call our Clinical Director at 516-780-2905. We accept payment in the form of cash, check and/or credit card. |

We do not accept any insurance plans. However, we can provide you with a receipt, so you can submit it to your insurance provider for "out-of-network" benefits. Reimbursement is not guaranteed, so it is recommended that clients call their insurance provider before their initial session to find out about their eligibility for reimbursement, what their insurance benefits are, and verify the out-of-network policy, coverage, and requirements for mental health services provided by a marriage and family therapist. |
Do you have a sliding scale? |
We do not have a sliding scale, but do work with our clients to ensure they can afford their treatment. |
How long will I be in therapy? |
Services last as long as you and your provider agree they are necessary. At SMFT a special structure is created for individuals, couples, and/or families to allow them to have the best fit for enhanced success. |

How often are the sessions? |
Sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis. |

Who are Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs)? |
Marriage and family therapists treat a wide range of serious clinical problems including: depression, marital problems, anxiety, individual psychological problems, and child-parent problems. Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) are mental health professionals trained in psychotherapy and family systems, and licensed to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage, couples and family systems. Marriage and Family Therapists broaden the traditional emphasis on the individual to attend to the nature and role of individuals in primary relationship networks such as marriage and the family. MFTs have graduate training (a Master's or Doctoral degree) in marriage and family therapy and at least two years of clinical experience. Marriage and family therapists are recognized as a "core" mental health profession, along with psychiatry, psychology, social work and psychiatric nursing. Studies also show that clients are highly satisfied with services of Marriage and Family Therapists. Clients report marked improvement in work productivity, co-worker relationships, family relationships, partner relationships, emotional health, overall health, social life, and community involvement The information about MFT's was taken directly from the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy website: http://www.aamft.org ©2002 American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy 112 South Alfred Street, Alexandria, VA 22314-3061 Phone: (703) 838-9808 • Fax: (703) 838-9805 |
